Preface
During my second year of college I heard about a fellow named
Josh who was coming to speak. I had no idea who Josh McDowell was or what an
impact he would have on my life. I was fascinated as he spoke with passion and
intelligence about what it means to be a Christian. It wasn’t about emotion;
it was about truth and Christ in the center of one’s life.
A few months later, after meeting some other Christians, I made
a decision to become a Christian. This was not a flippant decision. I had a lot
of questions. Some were being answered and some were put to the back of my mind.
I was learning that Christianity is not frivolous but involves serious
challenges to one’s thinking.
That summer I read Josh McDowell’s book, Evidence That
Demands a Verdict. Here was a book with convincing evidence that the Bible
is historically accurate. While reading this book I became very interested in
evidence for the truth of the Bible and its Divine handprint (apologetics). I
learned that the Bible is not some obscure religious book from the ancient past,
but is God’s special revelation to humanity.
Since then I have graduated from a seminary, worked with teens,
singles and as a church planter. For several years I have had a computer
consulting business and with my computer skills I developed the CD-ROM, Evidence
the Bible is True. I started writing an apologetics column in the Wisconsin
Christian News. As I learned more about the creation/evolution debate I saw
a need for a book that focused on just a few simple arguments. I wanted them to
be arguments that average people could grasp and use to interact with those who
are skeptical of the Bible. I was fortunate to gain the assistance of Frank
Sherwin from the Institute for Creation Research. Frank, who has extensive
experience with this subject, has made sure the book provided the best-known
scientific data. This book is a result of our unique partnership.
Many people feel that evolution is science while creation is
religion and thus not in the realm of science. However, few people seem to
realize that evolution is primarily philosophy and not observable science.
Macroevolution is not observed in the laboratory and cannot be tested.
The Bible is true both morally and concerning creation, as the
arguments in this book will reveal. These four arguments shout that evolution is
not true.
The rational mind will enjoy reading and interacting with the
following chapters. The Introduction helps the reader understand some key
concepts. The main chapters bring irrefutable evidence that macroevolution is
false. Chapter 5 is a creative presentation on how to become a Christian. At the
end of the book are appendixes for frequently asked questions and for helping to
develop thought-provoking questions when speaking with those who believe
evolution is true.
My hope and prayer is that this book will profoundly affect you
as Josh McDowell’s book affected me.
